Artist's Comment: This painting was one of the pieces from the Summer Art Institute at Davis. I am ashamed to say that I actually painted over this, now I regret it! When I realized that I had to include animals in my art, I checked out some books on cats at the library. Cats are so expressive in their eyes and I found this beautiful book on cats in Greece. The beautiful blues and whites of the country and hundreds upon hundreds of homeless cats! Well, I actually took the female model from the sketch in Life Gallery 1 and the male model from another sketch and incorporated them into this beautiful Greek scene. The orthodox Greek churches are seen in the back and the cat is sitting on the sill, looking back at us in a warning manner. I like the sense of morality, the couple seem like they're making some sort of decision they're likely to regret, with the looming crosses in the background. Well, at least I photographed it -- it can be repainted! |
