Murphy aka Miguel or Mcgil Murphy Williams

  General Notes:

He changed his name probably after Lillian was born (her name was Lillian Murphy) and his name was McGill or Miguel Murphy. He later change it to Murphy Williams.

In 1939 the tribal chairperson for the Walker River Paiute Tribe

His father was white and his mother was Paiute according to census records.

Funeral services for Murphy Williams, well-known weestern Nevada Indian who died at his home in Schurz recently, were held there April 14 Born in Hawthorne, Mr. Williams spent his early youth as a miner in Aurora during its boom days. Later he went into the ranching business near Schurz. Surviving him are his 11 children nine sons and two daughers. Eight of his sons served in world war II in various branches of the service. His wife died several years ago. Last rites were conducted from the Schurz Methodist church with the Rev. Bradshaw officiating. Six of his sons acted as pallbearers. Bureal was int he tribal cemetery in Schurz.

Found him in a 1905 census living in Bodie in a non-reservation area. It only says Murphy Williams and wife. I believe this is the same Murphy Williams unless there was another Murphy Williams.

According to Indian census reports he was born around 1860 or 1870

Murphy married Jennie Shu-wa Summers or Murphy, daughter of Johnny Summers and Mattie Summers. (Jennie Shu-wa Summers or Murphy was born in 1880-1885 in Mono Lake, California and died in 1966 in Carson City, Nevada.). The cause of her death was anerysm.

Murphy next married Mamie aka Mary Jones Williams, daughter of Living and Living. (Mamie aka Mary Jones Williams was born in 1896 and died on 27 Jun 1935.)
