A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Schurz tribal gymnasium for native Nevadan Clarence Williams, 87. Mr. Williams died April 5, 2004, at home in Washoe Valley.

A viewing is 6:30-8 p.m. today in Reno at Masonic Memorial Gardens, 437 Stoker Ave. Burial at the Schurz Cemetery will follow the service on Saturday.

Born in Schurz on Aug. 15, 1916, to Murphy and Mamie Williams, he was a member of the Walker River Paiute Tribe. He grew up on the Williams Ranch in Schurz and attended Indian schools in Stewart and Phoenix.

He was a Golden Gloves boxer, outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army for five years during World War II throughout the South Pacific and reached the rank of staff sergeant. He was a carpenter in Reno and Northern California for more than 50 years and was a member of Carpenters Local 971.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons Larry of Apple Valley, Calif., and Murphy and Kevin of Reno; daughters Colleen of Tuba City, Ariz., and Carrie of Washoe Valley; grandchildren Yona Trustman of Truckee, Lisa Love Inlow of Long Beach, Calif., and Lance Owl Williams of Huntington Beach, Calif.; great-grandchildren Arella Skye Trustman, Adrian "Lion" Trustman and Bryce Owl Love; and brothers Jack of Hawthorne, Ervin of Fallon and Everett of Carson City.
