Jack Williams, Sr., 95, a long time resident of Hawthorne, passed away on October 23, 2009 at Mt. Grant General Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Schurz, Nevada on February 18, 1914, to Murphy and Mamie Jones Williams. Jack was the second eldest of nine brothers and two sisters.
He attended Stewart Indian School and Phoenix Indian High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Upon graduation, he returned to Nevada and he met and married Lucille Evans from Lovelock. They moved to Hawthorne in 1940. During this time, he worked for Neal Construction, the original contractor for the base and thereafter for NAD until retirement in 1974.
Jack is survived by his six children, Alfred of Redding, California; Louis of Stockton, California; Jack, Jr. of Hawthorne; La'Verne of Ottawa, Illinois; Lorna of Durand, Wisconsin; Merry of Schurz and one brother, Everett of Carson City, along with eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille and son, Victor; brothers: Louis, Clarence, Elwood, Herman, Alvin, Ervin and Charles and two sisters, Clara and Delores.
Memorial services were held on October 31, 2009 in Schurz with burial at the Schurz Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction on Gunter's Funeral Home - Hawthorne.
