Artist's Comment: This was the first painting I completed after Jeremiah's passing. He died while working on a roof for a summer job. I believe Jeremy was not alone up there, that there were angels waiting for him, and this painting is the result. It's actually a very large painting, the largest I've ever done, and I had a hard time stretching it. This was the first time I tried painting something heavenly such as angels, and it was not as easy as I supposed. Another interesting note is how the roof is higher, closer to heaven and Jeremy is "climbing into heaven". After I painted this, I invited my mentor over to look at it. He reminded me of the biblical story of Jacob's ladder, where Jacob saw angels going up and down a ladder into heaven. Working on this painting provided me with a way to express my grief and provide comfort knowing my son was in the company of angels before he left this earth.
