Artist's Comment: This painting was a lot of fun for me and the result of watching the movie "Elizabeth" and reading a biography on Henry VIII. I was amazed how the wives in Henry's life seemed to be treated as objects and their value defined by whether they could produce him a heir. Those wives that were inconvenient or accused of being unfaithful were executed or put away. The dotted lines around the necks of two of the women indicate which ones were beheaded. The second The lingerie-style clothing is me poking fun at the whole thing. From left to right: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katheryn Howard & Katherine Parr. Ann Boleyn is the mother of Queen Elizabeth. If you would like to read more about these women, go to a neat website about the wives of Henry VIII. |
