bullet  General Notes:

She was a veiled prophet queen in St. Louis. This institution began in 1878 started by a group of prominent businessmen. A veiled prophet would preside and be recognized as infallible. The organization put on an annual celebration which consisted of a parade and ball. The veiled prophet began and continued as a courtship ritual for the daughters of St. Louis's wealthiest families. The veiled prophet organization was an elitist organization that was important to its members because it demonstrated that they were at the very top of St. Louis's white male aristocracy.
