I believe this James Garfield is Lula's brother; the closeness in age can only be her brother or close male relative. This is not verified. A 1900 census document says that his father is Irish, and born in Ireland and that his father is white. His mother is Indian. He's been married for 16 years to Grey hair or grey snow. He's a farmer

Grandma is still living near them in 1894

He is in a photo with Dan Mitchell.

Found a death date of 1950 in LDS website

He was a tribal chairman and went as a delegate to Washington DC with Dan Mitchell

Found a marriage document saying that his father's name was George Garfield and mother Rattle Tank.

Found a 4th marriage says his father George Corbanson and mother Rattling Tent. Man, he was 78 years old! Contradicting parents names.

Marriage document says he was born at Fort Union explaining his white father - a fur trader most likely.

James married Mrs. Mary Gray-Hair or Grey Snow in 1884 in Fort Peck, Montana. (Mrs. Mary Gray-Hair or Grey Snow was born in Sep 1870 in Fort Peck, Montana.)
