Bodie Graham, an industrious Native American who lived on the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Indian Reservation, raised thousands of turkeys on his small farm. Each fall he bartered with a local merchant, the I. H. Kent Company, trading turkeys for the supplies his family used throughout the year.

The turkey industry fell upon hard times after World War II. Today, only memories of Fallon Tom Turkey remain.

He graduated from Carson Indian School in 1901, the very first class. Reno Evening Gazette 1941 says of him: in 1901 the first class graduated 8th grade. Only three of the boys are still living...Bodie Graham is a successful farmer and turkey raiser in Churchill County.

Turkey Rancher Bodie Graham Dies in Fallon
Funeral services will be held Thursday for well-known turkey rancher Bodie D. Graham, 75, who died at his home in Stillwater Sundey evening. Born June 3, 1885, in Reese River. Mr. Graham was one of this areas foremost turkey raisers for the last 30 years. He was a member of the Lahonton Rock and Gem Club. Survivors include his widow Mrs. Alice Graham of Stillwater, three sons, raymond of Duckwater, Chester of Reno, and Winfred, Stewart; eight daughters, Mrs. Violet Arnett of Indianapolis, Ind, Mrs. Amelia Johnson and Mrs. Josephine Mills, both of Reno, Mrs. Vanna Roman of Concord, CA, Mrs. Adelene Amick, Southgate, CA, Mrs. Cordelia Nordwall, San Leandro, CA, Mrs. Tillie Baldwin and Mrs. Gernaldine Steve, both of Fallon, 38 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The Rev. Jospeh Pritchard of the Epworth Methodist Church wil conduct last rites at 2pm in the Austin Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Fallon cemetery.

Bodie married Alice Hicks Graham, daughter of Pat Hicks and Annie Hicks. (Alice Hicks Graham was born on 5 Mar 1892 in Hot Creek NV and died on 27 Dec 1974.)
