Owen Francis Weeks (Wiyaga Waste' - Good Feather)
WOLF POINT - Owen Francis Weeks (Wiyaga Waste - "Good Feather"), 76, was born on September 20, 1923, at home in old town Wolf Point to William Weeks, Sr. and Amelia Mitchell Weeks.
He grew up there with his four brothers and two sisters, who preceded him in death. Owen attended school in Wolf Point and graduated in 1939. He was known for his basketball skills, which included his own hook shot and played in Wolf Point Wolves first State Champion team.
In March 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the 140th Ordinance Auto Maintenance Company. He received citations for serving in the European, African-Middle Eastern Theaters. Owen's division participated in the land on Omaha Beach. During the war, he was an ambulance driver on the renown "Red Ball Express" serving the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland Theater. He was discharged on January 29, 1946, and returned to Wolf Point.
Owen and Sara Brown were married on February 2, 1946. They made their home in Wolf Point, where they raised four children. Owen worked for the Department of Reclamation Irrigation Project and for the Community Health Representative Program until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed watching sports and was an a-vid Wolves fan. He especially
enjoyed the time he spent with children and grandchildren.
Owen was a member of the United Dakota Presbyterian Church and played softball with the church team. Every year he traveled to ministry meetings and was active in church functions. Gardening was his hobby for many years and his brother Bill "Chub" Weeks competed to see who had the best garden. He was an ardent reader and completed the crossword puzzles in both Montana newspapers daily.
Owen is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Sara Brown Weeks, his sons O-wen Jr. and Bernard, brothers, Lonnie, George, William, Manfred; and sisters Vivian Weeks and Margie Youpee. He is survived by a special friend Delilah Hubbard; daughters Linda Connor (Larry) and Lois Weeks (Larry Martin), eleven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, May 12 at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were held May 13, 2000, at the United Dakota Presbyterian Church with Rev. Enright Bighorn officiating. Burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery/Vet Circle in Wolf Point, MT, with V.F.W. Post #1755 doing military rites. Clayton Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
