Mrs. Mercedes A. Courchene, 58, Wolf Point, died Sunday in Trinity Hospital after an illness of several years. She was born April 23, 1916, in Poplar, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Archdale Sr. She was raised by foster parents Mr. and Mrs. George West and attended Chemewa Indian School in Salem, OR and school in Brockton. She married George Weeks April 25, 1937, in Wolf Point. They lived in Wolf Point until his death in 1964. She attended Northern Montana College in Havre, graduating as a licensed practical nurse. She worked for a short time in Billings and in Ogden, Utah. On Jan 9, 1968, she married Richard Courchene in Ogden. They moved to Wolf Point where she worked in Trinity Hospital and Faith Lutheran Home. In 1969, she retired due to ill health. Mrs. Courchene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include the widower, three sons, Warren of Spokane, Wash. Gary of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Wade Allen of Wolf Point; six daughters, Mrs. Sandra Doty of Long Beach, Calif, Mrs. George Lee White in Japan; Mrs. Winona Morris of Sacramento, Calif. Mrs. Christine Fontenot and Mrs. Mary Jane Peak, both of Spokane and Mrs. Frances Flynn of Wichita, Kan. the mother Mrs. Nellie Archdale of Glasgow, two brothers, Sam of Seattle and Jess of Glasgow; a sister, Mrs. Marie Mackler of Hinsdale and 19 grandchildren. Services will be at 2pm Friday in Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, with Mormon elders officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mercedes married George B. Weeks, son of William Henry Weeks and Amelia Millicent Mitchell Weeks, on 25 Apr 1937 in Wolf Point, Montana. (George B. Weeks was born on 27 Aug 1911 in Roosevelt County, MT and died on 22 Mar 1964.). The cause of his death was exposure.
Mercedes next married Richard Martin "Budgie" Courchene, son of Philip Courchene and Sarah Mitchell Courchene, on 9 Jan 1968. (Richard Martin "Budgie" Courchene was born on 23 May 1915 and died in Jun 1975 in Wolf Point, Montana.)
